Porsche unveiled his latest mid-engine sport cars, the new 718 BOXSTER, and the first pictures of the new Porsche 718 BOXSTER and 718 BOXSTER S look pretty promising.
We already talked about the revamp of the Porsche CAYMAN AND BOXSTER line up (click HERE to learn more) and the big change was the new 2.0-litre four cylinder engine in the 718 BOXSTER which produce 300 hp and 380 Nm of torque (a gain of 100 Nm) available from 1,950 rpm to 4,500 rpm, the Porsche 718 BOXSTER S use a 2.5-litre engine, which develops 350 hp and 420 Nm (60 Nm more) from 1,900 rpm to 4,500 rpm this increase in power and torque is due to the use of a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. Porsche is claiming that technology is exclusively used on his cars with petrol engines like both in the 911 Turbo and 718 Boxster S.
This increase in power and torque simply mean that this new Porsche 718 BOXSTER and 718 BOXSTER S is quicker than the previous model, The 718 Boxster – with optional PDK double-clutch automatic transmission and the Sport Chrono Package – sprints from 0 – 62 mph in 4.7 seconds (0.8 seconds quicker). The 718 Boxster S made the 0 to 62 in 4.2 seconds (0.6 seconds faster). The top speed of the 718 Boxster is 275 km/h (170 mph), and the 718 Boxster S has a top speed of 285 km/h (177 mph).
The new Porsche 718 BOXSTER AND 718 BOXSTER S are more efficient than the current models by 13 percent.
Dynamics wise the new Porsche 7180 BOXSTER and 718 BOXSTER S use the same chassis as the current version but it was r tuned to match the new capability of the sport car, even the electro-mechanical power steering system is configured to be ten per cent more direct, as an option you can upgrade your suspension to Porsche Active Suspension Management “PASM” (which are a must have in my opinion) combined with a 10mm lower ride height.
The new Porsche 718 BOXSTER and 718 BOXSTER S also get some aesthetic touches without been so far from the usual and common Porsche design, with larger cooling air intakes, the nose of the 718 Boxster is completed by the new design of the Bi-Xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights. LED headlights with four-point daytime running lights are available as a new option the doors are now designed without door handle recess covers. New 19-inch wheels are standard on the 718 Boxster S. 20-inch diameter wheels are available as an option.
The new Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S are available to order today from Porsche Centers in the UK and Ireland. First deliveries will be in the spring.
The 718 Boxster is priced from £41,739.00 RRP and the 718 Boxster S from £50,695.00 RRP. (Irish prices are €67,963.00 and €86,057.00 respectively).
