We will always look for the better way to commute, whether it’s a car or a motorcycle, we have probably the same goal, starting from A and try to reach B, but lately a lot manufacturer especially the automotive industry starting to introduce more and more electric vehicle, and even if they don’t have a full electric car in their line-up, they compensate with a hybrid set-up, which is the way we like it until now, but in the other side or our side(motorcyclists) we don’t have a lot of choice in this segment, and even if we had the Electric bike are quite expansive and the range is pretty ridiculous, that what lead us to this KTM ION, this fully electric motorcycle is designed by Daniel Brunsteiner, this Austrian(don’t ask why he pick-up KTM) imagine this ION to be in the KTM line-up by 2022, it has a lot of technology, and we will pass all those techy features, to stick with the core of a motorcycle: the engine, chassis and suspension.
We start we the engine, it’s an electric motor, and he look big, we don’t know the power figure, but we expect a lot of torque coming from this electric mil, and he is powered by a battery situated in the middle of the chassis, the final transmission is ensured by a belt, so it’s almost a maintenance free. The chassis is made from carbon fiber which will give this KTM ION a light weight, but if you look closely in it, you’ll notice that this bike don’t utilize conventional suspension, because all the inappropriate road surface are taking in charge by the wheels! Those wheels have flexible spokes which absorb shock, and work like a suspension (don’t forget we are in 2022).
But there is a lot to complain about this bike (our humble opinion), why all the designer when they want to show us something from the future, they minimize all the rider needs, especially the ergonomic, for instance the bull handle bar will be a pain to grip on those thing in the city, where is the dash, the seat will not facilitate he comfort at all, plus why we don’t stick with conventional suspension, a proper fork and a proper rear shock (probably from WP), those weird thing will not happen, just give us an electric bike with a bigger range, and reduce the charge timing, that’s it.
